PRESS: Amazon, Google to decide on working in Russia after Telegram

MOSCOW, Apr 18 (PRIME) -- Amazon and Google will decide whether they will work in Russia or not because of the situation with popular messenger Telegram, which the country muted, the communications service’s Director Alexander Zharov told the Izvestia daily in an interview on Wednesday.

“All our activities to block the sub-systems were accompanied by correspondence with the administrations of these American companies. But we should understand that the factor of time played here: when we have a day, they have a night. However, the most important thing is that we have communication. We hope that for Amazon and for Google their business is of primary importance, rather than political motives,” Zharov said.

About 20 sub-systems are used to skirt the blocking, and the total number of IP addresses exceed 10 million, he said.

“For Amazon and for Google, it is certainly a serious challenge: if we have a look at the range of IP addresses, 6 million IP addresses of Amazon are almost half of what they have. In total, there are 13 million. On the whole, they are deciding whether they will work on the territory of the Russian Federation or not,” the official said.

“When the core business for Amazon is provision of hosting websites, they will hardly want to lose this business, including on our market.”
